Instructions for Priming with Epoxy Resin

In order to apply an epoxy resin primer on screed or concrete, a few things must be observed. We explain in our step-by-step instructions how to best apply the primer.

 

Surface Preparation

The preparation of the surface is essential before applying the primer, as otherwise there is a risk of insufficient drying and thus incomplete protection of the substrate. This should therefore be cleaned of all dirt deposits. Remove all grease and oil that has settled on it as well as dust and other dirt. Old coatings should be roughened thoroughly before working with the epoxy resin primer to ensure better adhesion of the epoxy. Afterward, the floor must of course be cleaned again. Flaking paint from an old floor covering must also be thoroughly removed.

If the floor has been newly poured, it must first dry completely. This can take up to six weeks and should definitely be taken into account in the time planning.

 

Filling missing Areas

After cleaning, the substrate should be freed from all misalignments. It must be completely flat. It is recommended to fill holes and cracks in advance. In doing so, observe the respective drying time of the filler. Screed or leveling compound can also be used instead of a smoothing compound.

Mix Epoxy Resin Primer

Now the epoxy resin primer for the concrete or screed can be mixed. Here you should observe the exact mixing ratio, otherwise there is a risk of insufficient adhesion and curing. Otherwise, the applied epoxy would remain sticky and would not provide protection for the floor. Please consult the manufacturer’s data sheet for the exact mixing ratio.

Stir the mixture very carefully and also pot it once or twice to ensure complete mixing. As soon as the resin and hardener are mixed, the pot life begins, i.e. the phase in which the epoxy resin can be processed. It must now be worked quickly. Alternatively, you can always mix just a little epoxy resin primer and then more if necessary. This makes the application less stressful.

 

Apply Epoxy Primer

Use a coating roller or roller to apply the epoxy resin primer to the screed or concrete. Take care not to work in too many air bubbles. Allow the first coat to dry for 24 hours and then apply a second coat using the same procedure. This must now also dry for at least 24 hours. At an ambient temperature of +20° Celsius, the coating is fully loadable after seven days.

 

 

Safety Instructions for Working with Epoxy Resin

When working with 2K epoxy resin primer, personal safety must be ensured. Wear a protective suit if possible. If this is not available, you should at least pay attention to long-sleeved clothing.

Respiratory protection is necessary to protect your mucous membranes from escaping vapors. Also, ensure adequate ventilation and protect your hands with disposable gloves.

If the 2K epoxy primer comes into contact with your eyes or mucous membranes, seek medical attention immediately after washing the epoxy with warm water for several minutes. Take the package with you to show it.

 

 

Tips and Tricks

If the epoxy primer has been stored in a cold place, you can increase the viscosity and thus ensure more convenient application by placing the container in a large bucket of lukewarm water for some time.

The epoxy should never be stored or processed in excessively hot and humid conditions, as this could impair its positive properties. During the summer months, the epoxy primer should be stored in a cool and dry place.

To achieve a high degree of slip resistance, you can sprinkle the still-moist primer with quartz sand.
